Sorry, Just realized that i hadn’t added this show to the blog. As always this was a very good show with a large selection of vehicles and trade stands. Don’t think i have ever seen so may GT40’s in one place. The show was over two days with some members attending either day and some camping overnight.P8313300 More pictures can be found HERE.P8313296

2009 Classics At The Castle by Glynn

P7192980Once again this was a really good show with several hundred cars ranging from a metro to a zonda. Unfortunately there wasn’t as many auto jumble and trade stalls as last  year but i would still say that it is the best local show that I've been to.  More Pictures can be found HERE

2009 Classic Ford Show by Glynn

P5312709This year daft decided to attend this show for the first time as a club. Most of the club members went up on the Saturday and camped overnight but I went up on the Sunday. This meant a 5:15 am start and a 3 hour journey. Although we still arrived before everybody else; despite the sat nav taking us round narrow country lanes and over hump back bridges. That said we got to drive straight in where as Phil who turned up later queued forP5312683 1 1/2 hours.

I had never been before and was very impressed. There was a really good selection of classics fords, trade stands and of course the drag strip. Scott was the only club member brave enough to run his fiesta on the 1/4 mile but I’m not sure what his time was. Some of the cars that ran were awesome and must have been driven by complete lunatics. That  much power in an old ford is just frightening. The jet car was pretty amazing as well.  P5312720P5312721

The only downside to the day was the 2 hours sat in a queue waiting to get out. Having had problems with restarting the Capri when hot we left the car running with the fans on override. This turned into a major problem when as we finally left I pushed the switch which bypasses the ignition switch and was still on full through the hole in the dash. The thought of a three hour journey with the fans going full P5312740blast, if they lasted that long, was pretty worrying. Luckily when we stopped for petrol i managed to extract the switch with a pair of long nose pliers and the car restarted straight away. The journey back was pretty uneventful. apart from the front of the car and the windscreen disappearing beneath a covering of flies.

I would definitely recommend this show to anybody into classic fords and hope to go again next year. Mind you if petrol keeps going up i may have to swap the v8 for a economical diesel. It cost approximately £80 in petrol to go there  and back.

Estates At The Ace By Escortina ( Chris)

 !cid_X_MA1_1244149968@aol  !cid_X_MA3_1244149968@aol

Took my cortina to Ace Cafe London yesterday as it was pre 84 ford estates at the ace. Went up with Matt & followed Kev & Georgia up in Kev's 'al Qaeda Cortina' ( more on that later !). Good uneventful drive at 60-70 all the way stopped in fleet for the burgers & little boys room. Got to Ace Cafe just before 11am as Kevs car started playing up. Only two other cars there....... !
Got busier as the day went on, 12 estates of different flavours. Mk1 & mk2 Escorts, mk2 & mk3 Cortinas, Anglia, mk2 Granada also mk1 & mk2 Escort vans, Cortina p100, mk2 Transits. So a good mix although not as many as I thought there would be.!cid_X_MA2_1244149968@aol
Classic Ford photographer was there (not Bryn) & we had a chat with him he remembered the club name (I suppose it does stick once heard) did some photos of our cars & got Kevs details, the right ones this time so keep an eye out for the feature.
Left about 3.30 for the journey home in all the London traffic (makes you realize how easy we have it here). Got a few miles from the Ace then Kev had what he thinks is overheating & misfire problems with his ignition amplifier so sat on the side of the road for 10 mins waiting for it to cool till it started again (1st strike for this years Golden Bonnet Hinge Award Kev!!)
As we got on the beginning of the m4 & got our speed up the litre of unburnt fuel in !cid_X_MA4_1244149968@aolKevs exhaust decided to go up with a real loud bang loads of black smoke & pebble dashing my car in bits of timax & years of old exhaust innards !! & creating the most spectacular split back box i've seen. I think anyone who lived nearby must have called the bomb squad, Hence the al-Qaeda Cortina.
The exhaust note did sound alot better after but I don't think its good for long journeys
the rest of the way back was fine just glad to get out from behind the wheel.
